چکیده

Rose-ringed parakeet (Psittacula krameri (Scopoli) damage to sunflower heads was estimated in two provinces of Pakistan during the spring of 1981. In seven districts of Punjab the damage ranged from 5.0-23.28 %, with an average of 11.72 %. In rainfed areas the damge was as high as 71.43%, with average of 38.29%. In Sind the damage was on the higher order. In nine districts the damage ranged from 6.98-26.09%, with an average of 16.61 % and as high as 55% at some locations. Majority of fields (47%) had 10% damage or less, while less than 10% of fields had 40-75% damage. The economic losses, based on 1983 production statistics, amounted to US$ 1.95 million.

Complete Genome Sequence of a Velogenic Newcastle Disease Virus Strain Isolated from a Clinically Healthy Exotic Parakeet (Melopsittacus undulatus) in Pakistan

The complete genome sequence of a virulent Newcastle disease virus (vNDV) strain isolated from an exotic parakeet (Melopsittacus undulatus) is described here. The virulent strain parakeet/Pak/R-Pindi/SFR-16/2016 was isolated from a bird reared as a pet in the province of Punjab in the northern region of Pakistan in 2016. Phylogenetic analysis classified the isolate as a member of NDV class II, ...

A parakeet genome project?

Researcher William Haseltine, head of Human Genome Sciences Inc. in Rockville, Maryland, likes to claim that knowledge from the human genome, combined with a few technology breakthroughs, will someday enable humans to live forever. Most researchers who study aging have more modest expectations--for example, trolling the genome for new insights into genes involved in so-called oxidative damage t...

Management Implications Derived from Bird Damage Assessments in North Dakota Sunflower

The most recent estimate of blackbird damage to ripening sunflower (Helianthus annuus) in North Dakota in 1980 exceeded $6 million. Although less than 5% of the sunflower fields in the state received greater than 10% damage in each of four past survey years, as much as 50% of the total state-wide damage occurred in these fields. This loss can be combated with cost-effective controlSuccessful co...
